This week in Secret Invasion:
Secret Invasion #1

Secret Invasion #1 opens with a Skrull history lesson, explaining how the Throneworld had been destroyed, fulfilling the Queen’s prophecy. She kicks off the series by saying “Then here’s what shall be done…”

Cut to Stark Laboratory. Tony Stark is explaining the potential scope of the Skrull Invasion to Reed Richards and Henry Pym, accompanied by the visual aide of Skrull Elektra’s corpse. He says he’s turning to them because they’re the smartest men on the planet, even though he’s not sure if they are who they say they are.

Up in orbit at S.W.O.R.D. headquarters, Dum Dum Dugan docks as a Skrull ship passes the satellite base, headed toward the Savage Land.

Back at Stark’s lab, the three scientists are trying to figure out how Skrull Elektra remained completely undetectable to mutant powers, magic and technology. Hank Pym plants the seed of paranoia into Tony Stark’s head, suggesting maybe the Skrulls are detectable, and the Avengers who told Stark otherwise were just lying to him (that would be Dr. Strange and Wolverine by my count). Stark gets a call from Maria Hill that the Skrull ship has crashed in the Savage Land. He decides to follow up and tells the two doctors he’ll check in later.

He calls in to Avengers headquarters, where Spider-Woman and Jarvis are the only ones around. He tells Spider-Woman that a Skrull ship just crashed in the Savage Land. She calls Luke Cage to tell him about the crash, suggesting he and her old teammates could get a head start on Iron Man and the Mighty Avengers. Cage calls Cloak, who drops the New Avengers off on top of Avengers Tower so they can steal the Quinjet and fly south.

Along the way, they discuss whether or not it’s a Tony Stark trap (to arrest them all) or a Skrull trap. Cage says “I hope it’s a Skrull trap. I’m so sick of hiding. I’m sick of not trusting each other. I miss my wife and kid. I want to put things right. I want things to go back to normal.” Curiously, Wolverine says “I can track anything anywhere anytime,” even though a point has been made of the fact that the Skrulls are undetectable. Then after a dinosaur trashes the ship, Wolverine steers the group away from some Savage Land ruins and toward the Skrull ship.

The team is speculating on what they’ll find if they open the ship when the Mighty Avengers arrive. Iron Man attempts to arrest them. The teams face off. Luke Cage defies Iron Man’s orders to stand down, saying “That suit of yours ain’t gonna hurt me. You know that. … Actually, what I mean to say is Tony Stark would know that. I ain’t entirely sure who you are.” Up on the S.W.O.R.D. satellite, Agent Brand and Dum Dum Dugan are watching the scene play out.

As Luke pries open the ship, the proverbial feces hit the fan.

Dum Dum says “He loves you …” and the satellite explodes.

Jarvis utters the same and feeds a computer virus into Stark’s system, immediately taking down the Iron Man armor.

The S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier falls from the sky.

The power goes out at The Raft maximum security prison.

“Captain Marvel” attacks the Thunderbolts Mountain headquarters.

A Skrull posing as Susan Richards opens a Negative Zone breach that swallows the Baxter Building.

Meanwhile, back in the Savage Land, the ship’s occupants emerge — ’70s versions of Beast, the White Queen, Spider-Man, Luke Cage, Thor, Susan Storm, Wonder Man, Phoenix, Iron Man, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Jewel, Mockingbird, Ms. Marvel, Captain America and Wolverine.

Up in space, Agent Brand is radioing for help, floating in a pocket of enough air to last her a few more minutes, when she looks up and sees a fleet of Skrull ships headed toward Earth.

Then back in Stark’s lab, just as Reed Richards is explaining his discovery of how the Skrulls made themselves undetectable, Henry Pym shoots him point blank, making a splattered mess out of Mr. Fantastic. Pym then shifts into Skrull form to close out the issue.

Past implications:
Awesome first issue. Wolverine was acting very suspicious. The occupants of the shuttle were totally mind-blowing. Obviously not all (if any) of them are the real deal, but it’s going to be fun speculating who is.
