Newsarama quoted Dean from Krypton Comics on Marvel’s offer to trade for unsold DC comics.
Dean Phillips, owner of Krypton Comics in Omaha, Neb., said he liked the fact that Marvel is trying a promotion, but not one this economically unfeasible. “Unless you are choking on unsold quantities of those books, it’s just not worth it,” he said. “Keep on coming up with inventive ways to promote, but do so in a way that helps the industry. Why attack others when you are in a position to help the entire market?”
Everyone is failing to point out that Marvel is offering a Deadpool variant cover to mock DC’s lame promotion.
Deadpool.
Variant.
Cover.
2010.
I’m just hoping the variant cover will by Rob Liefield. That would just seem fitting to me is this strange stunt.
I think what surprises me the most about all the silly incentive covers and gimmicked issues is that there is no end to them now and it has not damaged the industry like it did in the 90s. Then again there are a far fewer people buying comics now then there were back then.
Yeah, there’s just not as far to fall now as there was then. That’s one of the things that really bothers me about the $3.99 covers — Marvel clearly can justify the drops in per-issue sales thanks to the extra dollar they bring in, but that’s just more readers they’ve driven away that’ll be that much harder to ever bring back. All of these gimmicks to bring in more money aren’t bringing in more readers — they’re just squeezing more out of the dwindling remaining few.
