Punisher: War Zone Looks Stupid

Which is a cooler response to the phrase, “Go with God,” or, “God be with you, Frank?” Is it a) “God’s gonna sit this one out,” or b) “Sometimes, I’d like to get my hands on God?”
If you answered B, I guess you should watch this trailer. I answered A, because I loved Tom Jane’s Punisher (I know, I know).
This is the new teaser for Punisher: War Zone, and I’m far from impressed. The dinner party scene is reminiscent of Batman: Year One, the dangling from the ceiling scene is reminiscent of Boondock Saints (which, in case you didn’t realize, is a terrible, terrible movie), and the whole thing just seems kind of, I don’t know, off.
Anyway, here’s the teaser. Enjoy?
I enjoyed Tom Jane’s Punisher movie too, and yeah, this trailer was kind of painful. I kept comparing scenes to whether I thought the Punisher would do things like that in Ennis’ run. So I see the Punisher suspended from the ceiling firing as he spins and think “The Punisher wouldn’t do that, it’s too sloppy and imprecise.”
I know, that’s not really fair of me, but I can’t help it. I think Ennis’ take on the character is quite awesome, and a good way to go with him. But his moves look a little too slick, too fancy in the action scenes, with the sliding on his knees while firing. Like he’s working too hard, when he could do things just as easily in a way that wouldn’t require as much exertion on his part.
Maybe it looks better as a complete movie (I really hope so), but the trailer hasn’t got me excited for the film.
I think those of us who enjoyed The Punisher movie need to take it back for the side of good. Sure, it wasn’t Spider-Man or X2, but it ranks solidly ahead of Hulk, Fantastic Four, and Blade.
This new guy playing Punisher sure looks a lot mnore like the covers to Ennis’ Punisher, though.
Boondock Saints did it!
And the argument for “crappiest Punisher movie” gets even more complicated…
I just can’t seem to buy the new guy. If there never was a Tom Jane version, I’d fucking love it. But there was a Tom Jane version. And it was good. This looks great, but it’s not Tom Jane. I’ll still go see it opening day, buy the blue-ray and watch it for years to come, I just won’t enjoy it as much as Tom Jane’s take on Castle.
I doubt I’ll see it. Let me know how the Kool-Aid tastes, Joe Mamma!
