I bet Orion will end up being the killer and new major villian for DC. I read awhile ago that some Writers at DC think he would make a better bad guy than he could ever be for a good guy. Some of those writers could never get the character being good while his father was bad. I really believe it's all a build up making Orion the next Darkseid or so.

Thanks to having Grant Morrison as the writer, I'm afraid that Final Crisis might be a bunch of freaked-out gobbledygook.

I can't for the life of me remember where I read it, but I definitely remember somebody somewhere saying that Grant Morrison has this desire to anthropomorphize the DC Universe, making the universe itself a living thing. Since he's in charge of Final Crisis, it would make a lot of sense for this to be the case.

I didn't bother doing a Doomino Effect the week it happened, but there was one week not too long ago when an issue of Death of the New Gods came out the same week as the issue of JSA, and it had a feeling of the curtain starting to be pulled back. There was some hint dropped that week that made me think the universe was wiping out people like victims of an immune system.

So what I'm slowly getting around to saying is that I think you're on the right track as far as this being the motivation of some sort of primal, universal force.

Mr. Miracle was a member of the Giffen/DeMatteis Justice League, so it makes sense that something bad would happen to him pretty soon.

That's not bad, actually. If we're talking about who could pull it off, Scott Free does seem like one of only a few likely candidates, and I'll bet there's a good motive somewhere. Guess we'll find out.

You must've sobered up, because that makes a lot of sense. Also, and I need to reread this, but in the Fourth World Omnibuses (Omnibi?) there's a lot more background on Scott Free that strengthens your theory. If I remember right, Free was the son of Highfather, but Highfather and the ruler of Apokolips (before Darkseid) traded sons to broker a peace. So Free was raised on Apokolips and was predictably turned into one twisted SOB.
